Spork
I'm not quite sure what I am going to do with this thing (called a "spork", obviously because it is a spoon and fork in one), but I couldn't resist buying it. Perhaps it's because I hate plastic cutlery with such a passion, but still like the idea of something light and portable for those emergency moments when you find yourself starving in the middle of nowhere (or on a train) with a container of yoghurt and nothing to eat it with. This spork is only about three inches long and it is quite handsome because it is made of bamboo (by a company called "bambu", go figure). Not only does the natural material make the utensil attractive, it is also stronger than plastic and without the icky feel and taste of plastic in the mouth. I think probably every canoe trip and glove-compartment could do with one or more of these. In fact, think, I'll just keep one in my handbag, just in case of...something...
