This may seem like a strange one, but I was invited to a weekend party just before Christmas in a big, old country house and it had the most magnificent pantry I wanted to stay in it and never leave. This picture doesn't do it justice, because it's just one corner, but the pantry was big with a space for doing dishes (sink, dishwasher, drying racks) and on the opposite walls cupboards going all the way from floor to ceiling with sliding glass doors storing all the tableware, and lovely countertops for displaying cakes and any food in transit from kitchen to dining room. I love the idea of a separate space for all that activity. I didn't notice if there was another food pantry, but if there was I bet it was divine. I grew up in a house with a pantry (now renovated away - boo hoo) and I remember loving hiding in there as a child because it was full of interesting things, mainly to eat! The modern-day open-concept kitchen has many merits, but if I ever get to design a kitchen of my own...I think I definitely need a pantry, if not two!
