dulse
What is that purple wad? Well, it is one of my favourite snacks called dulse, which is sun-dried seaweed from the Atlantic coast of Canada (and possibly other places, but I've only ever seen it here). If you were not brought up eating it, you won't like it. It has a sort of thin, leathery texture and it is very salty and tastes of the sea. It is full of iron, and chewing it, you can almost tell. You can't cook with it, really, although you can buy flakes of it to put on soups (unappealing to me). Personaly, I just wolf it down by the fistful. Very healthy -- and health is one of those things one's mind turns to in September, era of new beginnings and good intentions.
