The Spectator

It's not every magazine one can read cover to cover, but The Spectator I gobble up like breakfast every time I get my hands on it.  As you know, it's out of the UK, so not always easy to find on the news stands, but it's worth the hunt.  I love the diary section at the front, written by someone different every week. I love the political commentary, especially Rod Liddle's and Hugo Rifkind's columns. The books and arts section is always rich (I even read the column on "radio"). And I adore the personal essays at the back, "High Life", "Low Life", etc...and "Dear Mary", whose answers to people's letters are hilarious and always way out of left field.  The Spectator promises superb writing from beginning to end and a perfect balance of thoughtfulness and laughter throughout (how else to take life?).  No wonder the woman beside me on the plane yesterday made off with my copy!
