A Platter of Figs
When I got home, along with a stack of bills in my mailbox was a copy of A Platter of Figs from chef David Tanis, a friend of mine who spends half the year living and eating in Paris. David's book has been out for months (you probably have it already!), but I hadn't had a chance to look at it yet. Well, what a PERFECT cookbook! It's organized by menu, which usually I find tricky, but David's menus are so perfect I don't want to change a thing about any one of them. I want to make them all, just as they are, and pray to God they turn out somewhere close to how I know they'd taste if David made them for me himself. The recipes are simple and easy to follow. And the beautiful writing is personal and evocative. A book that's appetizing and fulfulling all at once. Highly, highly recommended
